Day 3: Macau, Vegas' bigger sister

The following morning we took the 50 minute shuttle to Macau (quick tip here, if you go there, don't buy the return ticket as you will have to stand by many ferries before you can return home).

For those of you who have never heard about Macau, it is a territory owned by the Chinese and is predominantly Chinese but due to some historical reasons, there are a lot of Portuguese influences there ranging from the food to the architecture and culture . Another benefit of Macau is that gambling is legal there. Now, not to be racist, but Chinese people sure do seem to enjoy gambling, so much so that last year, Macau made more than Vegas in gambling revenue, how much more you ask? 5 times as much!

Since Macau is sort of its own country (albeit part of china) we had to go through immigration on both sides of the border - wasn't too bad, pretty efficient.

We went on a walking tour of the old Portuguese side of the city where we saw some Christian ruins and an old town set on the backdrop of a newer, more modern city with many lavish casinos.

We also saw a lot of interesting foods, including something I ate which I still don't know what it was but caused some issues I will not elaborate upon. But there were a lot of really tasty pastries and an obscene amount of bakeries, literally every other store was a bakery most of which bore the same store name! They also sold jerked meats which were actually really good (I'm usually not a fan of the jerky)

At dinner time we went to Taipa, a different island but still in Macau, where we went toa traditional   Portuguese restaurant with a traditional Portuguese owner, we had a really nice dinner and some drinks and proceeded to visit the Venetian hotel and casino, which is five times as large as its Las Vegas counterpart, however it was a little disappointing for us, I was all ready to go in and make some money playing poker but they didn't seem to have poker, they had they craziest games which we could not figure out.

We gave up on winning money and took the ferry back home but because we bought our return tickets ahead of time we had to wait until midnight or just stand by for ferries, we fought our way onto the 11:30 ferry and arrived at our bed at about 2am, completely beat.
