30 Minutes to Landing - The beginning of our honeymoon

30 Minutes to Landing
The pilot just called out 30 minutes to landing in Hong Kong and that the temperatures will be unseasonably cold (13c) – that took us back to the last time we did this kind of trip and the weather did not cooperate http://chibban.blogspot.com/2007/03/days-15-18-vegas-hoover-dam.html.
In 30 minutes we will be landing in Hong Kong and about to start our Asia Pacific adventure but before we can talk about that, let’s go back 24 hours.

Thursday Morning – Thanksgiving Day (2nd candle of Hanukkah) – 14 hours before the flight
The previous night we had all met at Yaya and Uriel’s new place for a traditional lighting of the first candle, Yaya had lost his Menorah in the move and we brought our own, which is nice since I’m pretty sure it never missed a Hanukkah since we moved here J we got home late and woke up a bit late, but we had a lot of stuff to do, apparently when you go on a 3 month trip it’s not as simple as going on a two week trip: We had to take care of subletting the place, make up a cleaning schedule, move our belongings to a locked closet, and many many more tasks that Sivan was overjoyed to create a Trello board to manage

We actually got it all done in time but we are still a bit anxious about our Airbnb guests staying at our place, not in small part due to Yaya’s horror stories about Tammy’s Airbnb experience (+Yaya, if you’re reading this, please put the story in the comments J )

How did we get here?
Let’s start at the beginning…

October 2003 – Starting school
So we won’t really take you that far back, just to mention that because this is our honeymoon, we would be remiss if we didn't mention how it all started. I won’t bore you with the details, suffice to say Sivan bothered me for months to go out with her and eventually I agreed J

December 2006 - Graduation and post army trip
We had both graduated and I had been working at a company called Vocaltec – and in a very similar way to what happened this time, we had decided we need to do a long trip, that time was the US for about 3 months, this time Asia Pacific.

Fast forward to July 3rd, 2013
Sivan finally agreed to marry me! We were leaving for the PEX music festival that night but I had a plan, you see, July 3rd is Sivan’s birthday and I decided that the best gift I could give her was my undying love. (also, she already had an iPad, so…)

November 2013 – getting married
We got married in Israel in a really fun ceremony in an awesome venue

But before the actual wedding, we had decided that before we have kids we need to do a long trip somewhere, only question was where to go, both of us are probably the only two Israelis who've never been to Thailand so we definitely wanted to go there, but you probably don’t want to do 3 months only in Thailand so we asked our friends and everybody agreed that New Zealand is amazing and if we’re in the neighborhood, we should do Australia, Laos, Cambodia, hop on over to China and then go through India on the way back. That’s how we ended up with a year long itinerary J We of course shortened it to be Hong Kong for 4 days, Australia for 3 weeks, New Zealand for 5 weeks and the rest in Thailand but we only booked a one way ticket so we’re completely flexible.

Final Descent
This is it, the flight attendant is yelling at me in Chinese, it might be time to turn off the computer. What adventures await us? Stay tuned to find out!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to Hong Kong!!!
